Public’s awareness and acceptance towards the ethnic minorities youth will also be enhanced through first-hand interaction with them.
Sports Play Out! Gamified Sports Training Project for Ethnic Minorities Youth
“Sports Play Out! Gamified Sports Training Project for Ethnic Minorities Youth” was launched in January 2021. It is a creative project that combined gamified sports training, skills empowerment and career opportunities for EM youth in Hong Kong.
The project aims at developing EM youth’s communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills, and confidence through gamified sports, and empowering them to work in the mainstream setting to maximize their exposure and participation in local communities, so that their social network and social capital can be enhanced. The project also aims at expanding their future career opportunities and increasing their social mobility in Hong Kong. We believe that the project would change public’s perception by enhancing their awareness and acceptance towards the EM youth through fun and interactive gamified sports programmes.

“ After participating in the Community Carnival, I enhanced my understanding towards EM youth. They are proactive and passionate. They explained the instructions of the games clearly. My family enjoyed the event a lot! ”
“ I get to find my true self and step out of my comfort zone. My biggest improvement is gaining the confidence to interact with local people. ”
“ When I first joined this project, I was not confident at all about standing up in front of people and coaching them. But through a series of training and placements, I am now confident enough to coach, and I realized the true meaning of “if you never try, it never works. ”
Project SHINE – TREATS’ Inclusive Work-based Learning Project for EM Youth
Project SHINE is a specially-designed project for building personal competence, enhancing social capacity and developing social networks for youth from ethnic minority groups through various outdoor adventure training activities and work-based mentoring. We provide intensive pre-project training, ongoing case management support and follow up sessions for both youth mentees from different backgrounds and participating corporate mentors. We work with companies to recruit and identify mentors and support them in providing guidance and being a role model for participating students. The project provides youth with an opportunity to learn and develop their potential, as well as helping to build a caring and inclusive corporate culture.
